How to Apply for Social Security Disability Benefits
Applying for Social Security disability benefits can be a confusing and frustrating process. As an experienced Social Security disability claim attorney, I’ve unfortunately seen many deserving Central Pennsylvanians suffer because they simply did not know where to begin.
If you are considering applying for Social Security disability benefits, there are four steps you can take right now to begin. Don’t wait—you need to start today to begin receiving benefits you need and deserve.
You can start your disability application online immediately; there is no need or reason to wait for an appointment.
To get started, follow these four steps provided by the U.S. Social Security Administration website:
- Review the Adult Disability Checklist. This will help you gather the information needed to complete the Internet Disability Benefits Application and the Disability Report.
- Complete the online Disability Benefit Application.
- Complete the online Adult Disability Report or Child Disability Report.
- Complete the Authorization to Disclose Information to the Social Security Administration (SSA Form-827).
If you do not feel comfortable applying for Social Security disability benefits online, that is completely understandable. To apply in person, call 1-800-722-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday through Friday to make an appointment.
You may also go to your local State College Social Security Office, located at 901 University Drive. The office is open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays (except Wednesday, when the office closes at noon).
If you have any questions about Social Security disability benefits, or have been denied compensation you rightfully deserve for a claim, contact an experienced State College Social Security Disability attorney right away.
